Argus is pleased to announce the launch of new polymer assessments in southeast Asia and India on 9 May. The six new polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) assessments builds on existing Asian coverage in southeast Asia and China and complements our global reporting of polymer markets.
India and southeast Asia continue to be exciting markets for the polymer industry. India is a major consumer of downstream plastic and despite its domestic production, the country continues to import from the Middle East and other Asian markets. Reliance, Indian Oil and GAIL are among Indian suppliers active in the domestic market.
Southeast Asia is also a significant importer of polymer material from various origins, including the US, Middle East and south Korea. The region will also witness new polymer capacity in the coming years. In 2019, Petronas and Saudi Aramco will welcome the new production of 900,000 t/yr of PP and 750,000 t/y of PE in Malaysia.
Following the launch of these new assessments, Argus will continue to closely monitor the development of the southeast Asia and India and the impact on trade flows of new PE capacity from the US.
The weekly assessments are available in the Argus Polymer market reporting service.
