North American Condensate, Naphtha and Product Export Markets to 2025

Opportunities and challenges for refiners

Changes in the global petroleum industry have reshaped North American markets and created opportunities and challenges for the refining industry. Shale technology developments have led to an expansion of US natural gas liquids (NGL), condensate and tight oil production and an associated increase in the overall naphtha supply. The ensuing challenge of balancing incremental naphtha supplies will to some degree be addressed by North American crude/condensate imports and exports and Canadian oil sands diluent use.

The challenges with expanding light oil supplies will also be mitigated through counterbalancing refined product supplies/shortfalls in North and South American markets. US products exports to Latin America will continue to play an essential role in providing opportunities for high US refinery utilization and a disposition for domestic light condensate and crude oil supplies, as well as an outlet for incremental refined products.

This study analyzes North American:

  • Crude oil production, disposition & quality
  • Refining capacity and utilization
  • Condensate/NGL production/disposition
  • Naphtha supply/demand
  • Price relationships and forecast
  • Product export opportunities within the Americas

Argus Consulting Services has examined these emerging trends with a focus on the Americas markets, balancing condensate and other light oil supplies and assessing implications for refining and refined products.
