Iraq’s bid round could attract 14 firms

Iraq's oil ministry said 14 companies have shown interest in a bid round for 11 oil and gas exploration and development blocks.

Previously, 13 firms had purchased the data package for the round, out of 36 that qualified, the ministry's director general for the petroleum contracts and licensing directorate (PCLD) Abdul Mahdi al-Ameedi said on 29 March.

The PCLD brought forward the bid process to April from May to be ahead of elections, but interested firms raised concerns that the timing would prove a challenge. Iraq postponed the bid round last week to 25 April from 15 April, to allow interested firms enough time to submit the required bid bonds.
