Iraq's oil ministry says Fao pipeline project completed
Iraq has completed a new 11.6km export pipeline project to transport up to 1.5mn b/d from the Fao storage depots in Basrah to export terminals, the ministry said today.
The pipeline is replacing old, worn out infrastructure in the south, and will transport crude to export ports in Ras al-Bisha 2 in the south. This includes the Khor al-Amaya terminal. It was not specified when exports through the new pipeline would begin.
No tankers have departed Khor al-Amaya since 25 February, Argus tracking shows. The terminal has been offline as a result of a leak in an underwater pipeline.
Infrastructure limitations to pipeline and storage equipment have long been a major impediment to the Opec producer's exports.
The oil ministry also announced the opening of a water injection project which runs from the main water pumping station in Kerma Ali to the northern 1.45mn b/d Rumaila field. This is to sustain and support reservoir pressure to increase the field's production. This water pipeline has replaced old, worn pipelines implemented in the 1970s.
