The client wanted guidance on long-term strategy for feedstocks and key target markets for SAF demand growth within Asia Pacific.
The team provided comprehensive reviews of policies relating to decarbonisation in a number of markets across Asia Pacific, all of varying sizes. This included providing a view of international and domestic aviation fuel demand out to 2050, which was combined with three different sets of assumptions in order to highlight three scenarios for SAF demand across each of the target markets. This also included analysis of regional and key country demand for SAF by feedstock type.
The client, a refiner based in the Middle East, was examining the feasibility of building a bio-refinery in the region to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Green products from the facility would be marketed to European and US markets, and these would include renewable biodiesel, jet fuel, LPG and naphtha. The client approached Argus to assist with the market study portion of the wider feasibility study.

The client, a Middle Eastern oil company, was reviewing its long-term strategy and approach to meeting obligations under European renewable fuels blending mandates. The client was assessing the viability of a potential offtake agreement with an HVO production facility, and wanted to understand the pricing basis and supply-demand outlook for a range of feedstocks and biocomponents.
The study, presented in PowerPoint, provided a complex and detailed assessment of renewable diesel and other biofuel markets in western Europe, indicating the current and future European net long and short HVO position. Supply-demand analysis, together with a feedstock and product pricing forecast, provided the client with solid assistance regarding an economic valuation of the potential offtake agreement. An additional workshop was held to present the findings to a wider audience.
