2025 has not been the breakthrough year that many in the clean hydrogen industry had been hoping for. Excluding China, capacity reaching a final investment decision shrank from a year earlier and the International Energy Agency for the first time revised down its 2030 projection for clean hydrogen production as a slew of projects has been delayed or cancelled.

The US government has withdrawn funding for hydrogen hubs, South Korea cancelled its 2025 clean hydrogen power generation bidding market at the last minute, and EU countries have been slow to transpose renewable hydrogen targets from the revised renewable energy directive (RED III).

Meanwhile, major oil and gas producers have pulled back on hydrogen projects as the energy transition is facing headwinds.

And yet there is a growing sense of urgency to advance hydrogen plans for many companies. The first renewable hydrogen quotas will take effect from early 2026, for example in the Netherlands, while deadlines set under subsidy schemes are drawing nearer for many project developers.

In this webinar, Argus will review the key events and developments in 2025 and look at what 2026 may have in store for the sector. And we’ll finish with the latest additions to the Argus Hydrogen and Future Fuels service.

Topics include:

  • RED III targets as the key demand driver for renewable hydrogen – what's the latest?
  • What are the prospects for northeast Asia as South Korea shifts focus?
  • Can tax credit schemes help renewable hydrogen get off the ground in Latin America?
  • After the IMO NZF: what’s next for e-fuels?
  • Argus Hydrogen and Future Fuels; hydrogen costs re-work; addition of e-SAF, new workspaces, expanded data and downloads, and low-carbon ammonia reference expansion.
